TPE - Thermoplastic Elastomers

Parts manufactured from TPE or also known as TPU will feel like flexible, rubbery materials that can be repeatedly stretched

without permanently deforming the shape of the part.

Unlike thermoset Rubbers - e.g. natural rubber, TPE's do not require vulcanisation or curing.

For this reason they can be injection moulded like plastic parts, making them very
suitable for high volume production where cycle times of the tool
is kept to a minimum.

Thermoplastic elastomers are copolymer materials made from formulations containing both soft elastomeric
and hard thermoplastic properties.
Some of the most common processing methods used for thermoplastic elastomers are injection moulding,
blow moulding, thermoforming, over moulding and extrusion.

TPE's are used in a wide range of products.

There hard-wearing characteristics make them very suitable for Automotive applications.

Thermoplastics are often found in devices used in dentistry. Small polishers made with thermoplastics are
not only reliable tools in the cleaning process but they are also durable and comfortable for the patient.

TPE's also play a large role in the manufacturing and production of medical diagnostic devices.

Their ergonomic pliability makes them ideal for prosthetics, surgical instruments and mobility aids.
These polymers are soft enough for patient skin contact,
yet can be hardened and made to withstand repeated use, drops and shocks

Thermoplastics are an ideal solution for household products because they are heat and cold resistant, they can be shaped into any conceivable design and they have an appealing look and feel.

COMMON USES
One of the most common uses for these types of plastics is in the grips of products.  Given the grippy and tactile nature of the material, it’s perfect to enhance ergonomic qualities and features.
For example, it’s typical to see mixing spoon handles made with thermoplastics.

While traditional building materials such as pipes, plastics, and components generally have a long lifespan,
the use of thermoplastic elastomers has extended them even further. Because of their resistance to temperature extremes,

lack of corrosive properties, and light weight, TPE's outlast their counterparts, making them more economical in the long run.
